Some observers label all sexually explicit material pornographic. However, many legal authorities accept that intent may moderate a work's classification as pornographic or not. For example, depictions of sexual intercourse may be used to facilitate sex education. In film or literature, sexual explicitness may contribute to the overall plot development. An explicit rape scene may have the intent of negative conditioning (such as the film Baise-moi). Vivid imagery of infected genitalia is often used for shock value as part of abstinence-based sex education programs.
